The Seaside Fire Department has 25 career and two volunteer firefighters and one fire house. The department responds to about 3,000 incidents each year, covering a population of 40,000 over 10 square miles. Seaside is the home of California State University, Monterey Bay, the Monterey College of Law, and the championship Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses. Seaside is also home to Fort Ord National Monument Park and is known as the Gateway to The Monterey Peninsula.
