The Forest Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the citizens of Bedford County since 1958.  With its 48 volunteer firefighters and one station, the department responds to more than 800 incidents annually for a population of 26,000 across 86 square miles. The Forest Volunteer Department is also responsible for protecting the National Historic Landmark Poplar Forest, which was Thomas Jefferson’s summer home.
